The Bernese Oberland is the mountainous area in the canton of Bern that encompasses some of Switzerland's most prestigious resorts, notably
Adelboden, Grindelwald, Gstaad and Wengen.
It is also a lake region, surrounding the large and chic Interlaken resort, which marks the departure towards the summits.
The region is demarcated by natural reliefs: by the lakes of Thun and Brienz to the north, the Saint-Gothard massif to the east, the Upper Valais to the south and the Vaudois Alps to the west.
After the city of Bern, it is by far the most popular tourist area in the canton. The scenery offered by the Oberland is magnificent: mountains (Jungfrau, Eiger, etc.), glaciers (Aletsch - the biggest in Europe), lakes (Thun, Brienz) and valleys of torrents (Haslital, Simmental, etc.) compete to compose the most beautiful surroundings for you.
